Perfection Paralysis

Today we are talking about perfectionism, and how to move forward and push through it.

I have been keeping a dirty little secret… I have a problem… a HUGE problem… a perfectionist problem.

But, we all do this, right?! We put off doing things we want to do because we are “not ready,” “I don’t like the way I look,” or “I am not the guru.”  Or how about, “I need to do more research…”  Wait, “I need to take another online course!”  We tell ourselves anything and everything to make it okay to stay s-t-u-c-k.

Perfection paralysis even applies here.  I had been putting off doing this blog for too many reasons — I have no good pictures, I am too busy, I already run several companies, I have a crazy life, I am too fat, I am too tired, people wont care about what I have to say…blah blah blah. I wanted to have everything ready to make everything perfect, so I put it off for months. I have perfection paralysis! Do you guys ever do that? Can you relate? I was sick of hearing my own excuses…

Often times, I put off doing so many things in my life just to wait for the perfect time, the perfect moment… and, guess what? It doesn’t exist. There is no time like the present!

We need to stop being afraid to flop and fail and just GO. MOVE. SOMETHING! Getting going and starting is so much better than doing nothing and wishing you had.

After I first got the inspired idea for Tigerlily Interchangeable Sandals, I really did not know what to do after that. So I just kept doing nothing…until years went by and I woke up one day after some tragic events in our lives.  These events made me really think…What was I actually afraid of? Nothing could be as terrible as what we had just dealt with. I didn’t want to live my life wondering what could have been, so I just started. Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of road blocks along the way.

We even had ridiculous shipments of completely un sellable sandals! Definitely NOT perfect. Not even close!! But, I didn’t let any of that stop me.  I just KEPT GOING no matter what. I couldn’t stop, I wouldn’t stop. You overcome it and keep moving forward.

I was reading something recently from Brendon Burchard, and he posted a quote that said, “What got you here might cage you here.”

“Try new things. Meet new people. Be more bold. You’re ready enough.”  So, I am not ready, but I am ready enough…are you ready enough?

Start doing the thing that you are scared to do…the thing that you are not ready for.  Take those steps and you will start moving to the other side of that fear. Life is too short to be afraid to start before you are ready.

I challenge you to take action in the thing that you are afraid to do, post that video on social media, close that big business deal, come up with the next big idea, start that blog…whatever it is that you need to do. You all have amazing gifts to share with this world. Don’t let anything stop you, especially yourself! Be kinder to you and speak positive thoughts.  Realize that you have the power to do anything you want and it wont and does not need to be perfect. It just needs to begin.

If you enjoyed this post, I would greatly appreciate it if you would comment and share!
