As I am reflecting on so many things this year, I am realizing more and more that the only person that stands in the way of what you want in your life is YOU. Today we are going to talk about self talk and how it affects you in every area of your life. The words and thoughts we say to ourselves has an affect on how we act and feel.
I was listening to a friend and mentor speaking about this recently, and he asked a pretty powerful question. If you heard an adult speaking to a child the way you speak to yourself what would you do? Would you get angry? How would you react? Wow… I never really thought about it before. I really started thinking about how I do speak to myself and sometimes it was not very nice! Think about what you say in your head all the time, “Im never going to do what that person did, I am never going to lose this weight, Thats just lucky, What a loser, I can’t do that, I am not good at whatever, I’m too fat, I’m too skinny, It’s impossible, I’m stupid, It’s too hard, I am not worthy,”and on and on it goes.
Did you realize that these thoughts and self talk actually become truth in your subconscience mind? We accumulate so much fear and negative beliefs during our lives that our subconscience is filled with self talk that just doesn’t serve us. Our bodies react to this ridiculous inner dialogue by producing feelings and emotions that we don’t even realize. The subconscience accepts this garbage as TRUTH, even if it is NOT & then starts talking action to match it.
Did you know that most people’s self talk is negative? What is your self talk saying? Mine was definitely not serving me. I have been “trying” to lose weight for quite some time. On and off, yo-yoing all the time, I really could not figure out what my deal was? I can start a company in a snap! Working crazy hours, doing whatever it takes to succeed, but just not this. I realize now, I was actually giving myself a license to fail by saying things like, “I am a stress eater” and “I am too busy to diet or exercise”, “I deserve this or that” Whatever. I was telling myself it was ok not to do the thing that I actually wanted to do by excusing my bad behavior. I finally listened to my self talk, and decided it was time to change it. So even though it is hard, and sometimes feels silly, I tell myself every single day. Multiple times a day, I CAN do this. I’ve GOT this. I DESERVE to be the weight I want to be. I no longer let my own self sabotage ruin my results. It doesn’t happen overnight, but the more you do it the more natural it becomes. Henry Ford once said- WHETHER YOU THINK YOU CAN OR YOU THINK YOU CAN’T- YOU’RE RIGHT.
That is a powerful statement. You have to believe in yourself. You have to tell yourself every single day that you can do whatever it is you want to accomplish. From losing weight, to financial goals, to starting something that you have always wanted to do. I am not saying it is all rainbows and ponies… or that it is easy. Sometimes it is hard, and you just have to push through it. When your self talk is positive, you become positive. Your stress level goes down, you wont have as much anxiety. Think about what we say to ourselves, and our children. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. We can make the most of each and every day, or make the worst of it all. I personally want to make my life count. I want to be the BEST me I can be. When you control your self talk and turn it around, you become the master. You become powerful. You can have and do anything you put your mind to.
